ROBERT PARKER SAYS IT’S
THE “SEXIEST”:
In the August 2006 Wine Advocate #166, Robert
Parker reviewed our 2004 Cognito and wrote, “the
sexiest, most complex offering…the 2004 Cognito, a blend
of Mourvèdre, Grenache, Zinfandel, and Syrah from six different
parcels. Its deep ruby/plum color is accompanied by a spicy,
earthy, black fruit, licorice, and smoke-scented bouquet. Lush
and medium to full-bodied with impressive quantities of fruit,
it should be drunk over the next four to five years.” You
can look forward to sampling our 2004 Cognito in your November
Cellar Club Shipment. If you are not a member and would like to
purchase our 2004 Cognito or any of our wines, please click here.

EDWARD SELLERS VINEYARDS & WINES...
Edward Sellers Vineyards and Wines began in 2004 from the lifelong
dream of Ed Sellers. Yes, that’s his real name. Born
on a farm in Upstate New York near the Finger Lakes wine region,
Ed migrated to California in 1977. Armed with a microbiology
education and a boundless entrepreneurial drive, Ed chose a career
in business. Go figure! All along, Ed yearned to make his
own great quality wines. Coming full circle, back to his
roots, Ed decided to change careers mid-life to try his hand at
grape growing and winemaking. After lots of research, Ed
found the ideal location to grow and produce world class Rhône
style wines in Paso Robles, California. He bought a vineyard,
planted Rhône varietals, hired a talented UC Davis-educated
winemaker by the name of Amy Butler, sourced great fruit from local
vineyards and started a new wine label. Now he combines his
desire to be “on the land” with his love of business
and his passion for wine.

HARVEST 2006; SO
FAR, VERY GOOD!
“Although it is difficult to know the quality of a
given vintage until the wines are in barrel, the 2006 harvest
seems to be shaping up to be a great one. In fact,
winemakers all over the region are just beginning to breathe
easy after the spring and summer weather gave us plenty to
worry about. First, a late and cool spring delayed
bud break, prompting many of us to joke about picking at
Christmas time. But the grapes caught up, and then
some, when we had a mid-summer heat spike, followed by cooler
temperatures that brought a quick onset of veraison. Quality
is exceptional, with small berry size and an unusually balanced
crop level. We began this year’s crush by picking
Marsanne on September 6th, followed by Syrah on September
8th and we will pick our Viognier on September 15th”.

WINEMAKER, AMY BUTLER, TASTING NOTES:
“The Grenache Rose is made from some of the finest Grenache
taken into the winery every year. Its light color is a result
of a special processing during which juice is drained from the
skins prior to fermentation. The color is perfected with a small
addition of Syrah which contributes an exotic, tropical note to
the aroma and flavor of the wine.”
